Gift Aid: what it is and how to claim it

How Gift Aid works for charities on Neighbourly and how donors can include a declaration

This article explains how Gift Aid works on Neighbourly for charities and for donors.

I am a charity — can I receive Gift Aid on donations?

Yes. As part of the public fundraising approval process, you can provide information about your participation in the HMRC Gift Aid scheme. Public donors will then be offered the option to include a Gift Aid declaration confirming their eligibility.

How do I register my charity with HMRC to receive Gift Aid?

Register online with HMRC or fill in the HMRC CASC Registration Form (CASC(A1)). For more information visit gov.uk/claim-gift-aid/overview.

I am a donor — can I include Gift Aid on my donation?

Yes, if you are a UK taxpayer and eligible, you may be offered the option to include a Gift Aid declaration when making a donation. The Gift Aid portion of your donation is exempt from Neighbourly's 5% transaction fee.
