Two-Factor Authentication: setup and troubleshooting
How to set up TFA on your Neighbourly account and what to do if you lose access
This article explains how Two-Factor Authentication (TFA) works on Neighbourly, how to set it up, and what to do if you lose access.
What is Two-Factor Authentication?
TFA adds a second verification step to your login. After entering your password, you need a unique code generated by an authenticator app to confirm your identity. This significantly improves your account security.
Why use an authenticator app rather than SMS?
Authenticator apps generate secure, time-based codes that do not require an internet connection or phone signal, making them more reliable and secure than SMS codes.
Which authenticator apps are recommended?
Popular options include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy. All are widely supported and free to download from your phone's app store.
How do I set up TFA?
If your account requires TFA, you will be prompted to set it up after logging in with your email address and password. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your authenticator app.
Do I need to enter a code every time I log in?
Yes, you will be asked for a code each time you log in. You can select 'Stay logged in for 7 days' on a trusted device to reduce how often you need to enter a code.
Do I need internet or phone signal to get my codes?
No. Authenticator apps generate codes offline, so you do not need internet or mobile service to access your codes. You do need internet or phone service for the initial setup only.
What if I lose access to my authenticator app or device?
You will receive a set of recovery codes during setup — store these somewhere safe. You will need a valid recovery code to reset TFA if you lose your device. If you do not have any valid recovery codes, contact Neighbourly to reset TFA on your account.
