Neighbourly is an award-winning giving platform that connects businesses with local charities and community causes across the UK and Ireland. Through our platform, your organisation can receive donations of volunteer time, funding and surplus products from businesses. The platform is completely free for charities and community organisations to use, allowing you to fully benefit from the resources offered by our network of corporate partners.
Creating an account is simple and free. Visit neighbourly.com and click "Sign up" to create your personal account first. Once logged in, you can create a page for your organisation by providing details about your charity's work, impact and the types of support you need. Make sure to include a detailed summary of your organisation, high-quality images, and information about how you would use any donations received.
Before your organisation can receive support through Neighbourly, your page must have a 'verified' status. This involves us checking the credentials of your organisation. Once vetted, your page will show either a blue verification tick (for registered charities) or a green verification tick (for non-profits and community groups). Verification is quicker if all sections of your Neighbourly page are properly filled in. Pages are re-verified periodically to maintain trust in the platform.
You'll receive email notifications when suitable grant funds are available for your organisation to apply for. Applications are submitted through simple online forms on the platform. You can track the status of your applications through your dashboard. If your application is successful, you'll be asked to provide bank details and supporting documentation for verification before payment is processed.
Log into your dashboard, click the settings icon next to your page, and select the 'Volunteering' section. From there, you can create a quick volunteer 'need' or a more detailed volunteer 'opportunity' that corporate volunteers can sign up for. Describe the skills required, the impact volunteers will make, and set dates, times and the number of volunteers needed. Companies on Neighbourly can then offer employee volunteers to support.
Neighbourly welcomes registered charities, non-registered community groups, schools, Community Interest Companies (CICs), and other not-for-profit organisations based in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey. You don't need to be a registered charity to create a page and receive support, though some features like individual giving fundraising are only available to registered charities and CICs.
Your charity can receive three main types of support through Neighbourly; Financial donations: Direct monetary contributions from businesses or individuals, Volunteering: Access to corporate or community volunteers who can help with projects and activities, Product surplus: Donations of surplus food and products from businesses.
To apply for surplus food donations, create a Neighbourly page for your organisation and complete the 'food approval' section. You'll need to upload a current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (dated within the last 2.5 years) or add a link to your Food Standards Agency (FSA) Rating. Our vetting team will review your application, and if approved, we'll match you with stores within approximately 6 miles of your premises as collection slots become available.
Registered charities and Community Interest Companies can set up fundraising (public donations) on their Neighbourly pages. After creating your page, go to the 'Individual donations' section to connect or set up a payment account with Stripe (our secure payment provider). Then, create a fundraising pot by clicking on the 'Fundraising' section and following the prompts. You can create multiple fundraising pots for different projects or needs.
Once your page is complete, published, and verified, you'll begin receiving email notifications about relevant opportunities, including grant funds and volunteer offers. You can also proactively create fundraising pots and volunteer opportunities. We recommend keeping your page up to date with your current activities and needs to maximise visibility with potential supporters.
